Who we are and our vision

We are a small business based in the Raches area of Ikaria, Greece.

We live in this place by choice. We chose a simple life, living close to nature, with respect for her and nourished by her on all levels.

We love and believe in the power of natural products, especially essential oils. We consider it our privilege to receive them and provide them for others. It is important to us that we retain their essence to the maximum, pure and unadalterated.

We believe in sustainability and this is an integral part of our whole process. We support a natural environment that can renew and multiply its resources without intervention. This ensures their viability over time.

We like to keep on learning and improving our work on all of its aspects. As long as we feel the ground stable under our feet, there is always something new to learn, a step further we can go.

We believe in sharing our work and our vision whenever we can. We especially love sharing the experience of producing our oils, from picking to distilling, with visitors in the spring and the summer.

We specialize in producing high quality essential oils and hydrosols for therapeutic reasons, but we are not health practitioners. We have the utmost respect for serious health practitioners that have studied and worked for years in order to be able to give any advice on health issues. They are not just our clients, they validate the quality of our products, give us feedback and above all, they put our products in the best possible use. We do not give advice on health issues and we urge you to contact a health practitioner before using our products.

Our vision is to spread the word of our work and help other like minded people who are keen in producing essential oils at their places. We know there are plenty out there, but not enough. There is always room for people doing passionately what they love and our thirst for good natural products has never been greater. Quality always lies in small production where deep personal relationships traverse all its aspects; people, plants, animals, land, even machines.

A personal touch

I have been living in Ikaria since 2009. I moved here from Athens where I worked as a computer programmer and lived a typical city life. I was compelled to live a life more connected to nature, myself and the community. I founded ikarianature after experimenting with essential oils for some years. I was inspired by the fact that nature can provide most of our medicine and encouraged by the abundance and quality of the wild herbs found on the island. I started distilling wild lavender (lavandula stoechas) using a tiny 1lt desktop distiller. Today I distill 14 different herbs and constantly experiment with new ones, using a 350lt distiller.

Thodoris’ efforts in establishing on Ikaria were partly documented in the award winning documentary about Ikaria, Little Land (2011) by Anemon Productions.
