Visit our distillery

You are welcome to join us and live the experience of capturing the therapeutic power of Ikarian nature.

We offer an experience of around 4 hours during which will collect and distill the herb of the season. We will start by visiting a location where the herb is abundant. We will spend some time identifying the herbs and discussing their properties. You will learn to gather the herbs by hand, selecting only what is necessary, ensuring sustainability and quality.

We will then return to the laboratory and start the process of distillation. You will help to load the distiller and start the distillation, learning the secrets involved in capturing high quality essential oils.

While the distillation is in progress, you can sample our range of oils and hydrosols, drink some tea made from local herbs and learn about their uses. During this time, we will start to see the magic happening as the essential oil accumulates in the separator.

Our season starts end of March and continues until mid-September. Depending on the conditions, in March, April and May we have Lavender, Sage, Rosemary, Rose Geranium. In June we have Savory, Helicrysum, Oregano, Eucalyptus. In July we have Thyme and Peppermint. In August and September we have Rock Samphire and Wild Carrot.

  •   This was the best afternoon we've spent here in Ikaria! As someone who has always enjoyed essential oils, I learned SO much from Theodore and his wife, Tara. He explained each step of the harvesting process (be sure to wear long pants and sneakers if you plan to help!) and was so knowledgable about all the plants and herbs. After harvesting, he explained the distillation process, and we got to see all of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into oil making. While we waited, they further explained all the benefits and uses of the various oils, along their own ethos and stories. We were completely welcomed into their home, provided with delicious snacks, and given great insight about the island. 10/10 would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about the oil distillation process and spend a lovely afternoon surrounded by nature and pleasant company! •   I can still smell the delicious fragrance of lavender even though it's been months since the extraordinary day spent at Theo and Tara's herb farm. Theo showed us the way to collect lavender out in his fields, after which we brought the aromatic filled sacks back to his distillery. We watched and took part in this amazing process of turning herbs into oil. Theo educated us on all of the aspects of this process with such loving respect for the land and and life of plants while Tara served us home cooked food and wine...we then were introduced to all the various oils that he makes and their uses, which are many. This experience was unique and so beautiful...anyone visiting Ikaria should have this on the top of their to do list! Thank you Theo and Tara! More
